Connection help
If a computer shows online in the console but connecting to it fails with "Failed to secure tcp: deadline has elapsed", that computer's network is letting it check in but blocking the connection ports. This is common on office and corporate networks.
Check what the network blocks
Run this in PowerShell on the remote computer:
Test-NetConnection pixelpup.net -Port 21117 Test-NetConnection pixelpup.net -Port 21116 Test-NetConnection pixelpup.net -Port 21115
Any line where TcpTestSucceeded is False is a port that network
blocks. Port 21117 carries the session itself, so it is the one that matters most.
The fix: a one-line firewall allowance
Ask the network's IT contact to allow this outbound traffic:
| Direction | Protocol | Ports | Destination |
|---|---|---|---|
| Outbound only | TCP | 21115-21117 | pixelpup.net |
| Outbound only | UDP | 21116 | pixelpup.net |
Note for IT admins: the client only makes outbound connections to a single
host. Nothing inbound is required - no port forwards, no inbound rules, no VPN, and no
listening services exposed. Connections are end-to-end encrypted and key-authenticated.
Things that do not help
Do not enable Use WebSocket in the app's network settings. Our server does
not support that mode and the app will sit at "Connecting to the RustDesk network..."
indefinitely. If it was turned on, turn it back off.
- Port forwarding on the remote network's router - not needed, the client is outbound-only.
- Reinstalling the client - the install is fine if the computer shows online.
